The largest Istrian town, and one time main military port of the Austrian monarchy is worthy of all visits. This is due to its preserved architecture of the Roman Empire, such as the arena, the theatre and triumphal arches, as well as buildings dedicated to the eminence and artistic soul of the Roman emporium. Fruit and vegetables, meat and fish, evidence of the rich Istrian agriculture, can be found on the market. What makes the numerous and celebrated events in Pula particularly attractive is their historical location, such as the arena, the little Roman theatre, or the strongholds of Fort Burginon and Kaštel Pula. Nesactium, the political village of Histra, is found near Pula, from which the first residents of Istria got the name Histria-Istria.
